The present study endeavors to see whether introduction of head restraints in automobiles has been associated with a change in the incidence of claimed neck injuries (whiplash) in rear-end collisions. For this purpose the authors used the frequency of whiplash injury insurance claims. Results appear encouraging but the neck injury problem must be handled much more vigorously.
