The desirable protection criteria on dummies have to be defined from the best estimate of human tolerances. In lateral collisions, the state of knowledge stayed a long time less advances than in frontal collisions. Research on fresh cadavers has been carried on for several years to fill this gap; a synthesis of recent results is presented.
Relating to the head, sufficient data has been collected in the cases of impacts simulating realistic conditions of ΔV and shock duration. Likewise, for the neck in the absence of head impact, for the thorax, and the pelvis, numerous experiments were conducted, which are used to define human tolerances.
The state of the transpotition to dummies is evoked.
