The APR dummy was presented at the 7th ESV Conference (Paris 1979) and at the 23rd Stapp Conference. This dummy was defined from human data; it was built starting from the part 572 as a basis.
The problem to be solved was to obtain a convenient dummy in the case of lateral impact. However, the proposed solution made possible to use the same dummy in frontal impact.
Available test results were at that time relatively few; in another aspect, protection criteria relevant to this dummy were not defined.
This paper aims at satisfying these needs, partially at least. Evaluation tests, the results of which are presented, contain in particular drop tests and car to car lateral collisions. Some tests duplicate tests carried out separately with human subjects.
Improvements of the APR dummy and its potentialities are presented, as well as measurement devices and first attempts to delining protection criteria suitable for this dummy.
