The improvements performed in the scope of passengers protection in side vehicles, mainly in case of frontal impacts, together with an important analysis and problem setting work relating to lateral impact, lead us to tackle the problem of pedestrians and cars coexistence.
The research for pedestrian safety improvement shall be based on movement analysis of the pedestrian run into by a vehicle. It is then necessary to carry out experimental impacts between pedestrians and vehicles.
The choice of the model enabling to simulate a pedestrian is an important preliminary.
To carry out this research we have convened a team composed of:
The experimental means are set up in the Faculty of Medicine of North Marseille; the testing is performed either with anatomy subjects or with the ONSER dummy.
We describe the experimental phase briefly. Then we set forth the method which enabled us to place information at Technical Center disposal.
This information is intended to guide Designers' work. It shall permit the realization of vehicles less traumatizing for pedestrians.
