This is an in-depth study which was prompted by calls for increased vehicle security in the UK. The study examines the risk of sustaining serious and fatal injury with and without ejection from motor vehicles. Major ejection portals, contacts with interior and exterior injury sources, seat belt use etc, are all assessed. Solutions to the problem of vehicle security are discussed which may have the added benefit of prevention of ejection through side and rear windows. Problems associated with occupant evacuation from the vehicle following the collision are considered.
