Changes in resorption spaces in femoral cortical bone with age

Abstract

The vascular spaces in 63 samples of femoral cortical bone at varying depth from the surface have been measured in histological sections.

The total space and number of spaces present in the cortex increases with age.

It has been shown that osteoporosis tends to spread progressively and centrifugally from the endosteum with ageing.
