Abstract
Pressures developed inside a fluid filled cylinder during acceleration are computed taking into consideration the compressibility of the fluid and the extensibility of the cylinder. Results of these computations are presented in graphic form to indicate the influence of each of the various factors which affect the maximum positive and maximum negative pressures developed as a result of the acceleration. Some experimental results are presented which confirm that a ‘negative’ pressure does develop.
