In recent years extensive study has been undertaken to improve windshield safety performance by evolutionary and innovational developments. All the information and data reported in this paper except for the cadaver impact studies were developed at the Glass Research Center, Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. The aim of our research and development effort on safe transparencies is to seek the ultimate in windshield safety as well as develop data and technology for the automotive industry's consideration. This paper presents and interim progress report covering our laboratory data on the impact performance of laminated safety glass as influenced by many component and evaluation variables. New candidate materials are under study and the progress of our investigation will be reported from time to time as research progresses
