The relative importance of head injuries in pedestrian accidents and the influence of head impact location on the severity of head injuries is examined by reference to the PICS data file.
The results of an experimental program, in which the relative stiffnesses of different locatiorrs on the hood fender top surface were determined are described and compared to the accident data analysis.
The initial findings of a program to reconstruct pedestrian head to vehicle contacts is reported and problems relating to the reconstruction of head impacts discussed.
