In order to study the occupant protection functions of vehicles in side collisions, an analysis was made on protection countermeasures and their effects. The synthetic evaluation primarily used vehicle crash tests which included static sled experiments.
Practical and concrete solutions to the countermeasures were obtained from the fundamental experiments, which were used to develop an experimental NRV-II.
Further, various parameters of the striking cars, such as impact energy, impact point, etc. were examined to determine their influence in order to clarify methods for evaluating the side-impact occupant safety of vehicles.
