This paper provides an overview of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) recent and pl.anned future activities to improve the content and delivery of the consumer information it provides as part of the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). Many of NI-MSA’s activities respond to the recommendations of the National Academy of Sciences’ study “Shopping For Safety: Providing Consumer Automotive Safety Information.” The activities discussed in this paper are organized under four categories: IBetter Understand Customers’ Needs, Improve Existing NCAP Information; Develop New NCAP Information of Value, and Improve Awareness and Use of NCAP Information.
