This thesis describes the development of a sensor for measuring the surface temperatures of a strip in cold-rolling as it passes through the roll bite.
The results obtained using the sensor, in dry cold-rolling, 23 aluminum strips, show-that for the combinations of speeds and reductions that were run a peak temperature appeared prior to exit from the roll bite.
A simple method for measuring point by point slip in the roll bite is also described.
