Master Thesis (I) will propose an alternative way for macro analysing self-citations in the field of Psychology. To this extent, an introduction will provide a dissertation on the current state of self-citation research.
Subsequently, using the top 200 publishing authors in Psychology as defined by the Web of Science, this thesis proposes a method to investigate self-citations for the period of 1993 to 2013. Including (a) a general bibliometric overview, the following additional research questions are introduced. (b) How does the number of synchronous self-citations evolve over time using different definitions? (c) What is the role of selfproduction in self-citation behaviour using different definitions ? (d) Which factors correlate with self-citation behaviour? And finally (e) how can we characterise the use self-citations qualitatively?
