There is a wide discrepancy between the current medical knowledge and skill and its application to the traffic victim at the roadside and during transport. A plan for the distribution and intensive resuscitation of traffic victims is absent in most communities. A study outlining the time lapse, casualty care given, and the changes in status of 369 traffic victims during transport is reported. The need to train ambulance personnel to perform basic life saving resuscitative procedures is discussed.
