The Western Australian Road Injury Database, maintained by the Road Accident Prevention Research Unit, consists of linked records of all police reported crashes, hospital admissions, ambulance trips and deaths from road traffic crashes in Western Australia from l988 until 1992 inclusive. The merging of police reports with vehicle licence details allows the injury experience of vehicle types to be determined. In addition to providing an extremely valuable research tool, proposed enhancement of data collection and linkage methods will provide a powerful executive decision support system available to road safety agencies in this state.
