Internal bone remodeling induced by a medullary pin

Abstract

A theoretical analysis of the internal remodeling induced by a medullary pin is presented. This analysis shows that a force fitted medullary pin will induce either a reduction in the stiffness of the bone surrounding the pin (and therefore loosen the pin) or a pathological bone state.
