Abstract

A method is described of calculating the bending moment at failure and the modulus of elasticity in bending of bone when the stress-strain curves for tension and compression are given. Cortical bone specimens were tested in tension, compression and three point bending and the results compared with the formulae developed. The effect of several experimental and structural factors on the results is discussed.
