Vibration acceleration measured on pneumatic tools used in chipping and grinding operations

Abstract (English)

This paper presents the acceleration measurements and data analysis aspects of a comprehensive multidisciplined field study of several hundred chipper and grinder workers using pneumatic hand-held tools. Measurements indicate that acceleration levels are approximately 2400 G(rms) on the chisel and 30 G(rms) on the handles of impact chipping hammers in the frequency range from 6.3 to 1000 Hz. Grinder acceleration levels are approximately 0.5 to 2 G(rms) over the same frequency range. The results are compared with guidelines for vibration exposure proposed by the ISO/DIS 5349. It is found that chipping hammers generally possess acceleration levels in excess of the guidelines, and grinders possess levels that fall between the guidelines for thirty minutes’ and eight hours’ exposure.

La présente communication contient les mesures d’accélération et les résultats de l’analyse des donndes fournies par une étude multidisciplinaire approfondie effectuée in situ, portant sur plusieurs centaines d’opérateurs de marteaux-piqueurs et de broyeurs utilisant des outils manuels pneumatiques. D’après les mesures, les niveaux d’accélération dans la gamme de fréquences de 6,3 à 1000 Hz sont de 2400 G environ (valeur efficace) sur les poignées du marteau-piqueur. Dans le cas du broyeur, les niveaux d’accélération s’élèvent de 0,5 à 2 G (valeur efficace) pour la même gamme de fréquences. On compare les résultats aux limites proposées par l’ISO/DIS 5349 pour une expositionà des vibrations. On a trouvé que les marteaux-pigueurs présentent généralement des niveaux d’accélération supérieurs aux limites proposées, et que dams le cas des broyeurs ces niveaux sont compris entre les limites correspondant à une exposition d’une durée de trente minutes et de huit heures.
