A new source of lead intoxication was described. A survey of race car drivers and mechanics disclosed 35% of group studied to have laboratory evidence of high lead exposure and 10% with some clinical signs of significant lead exposure.

Epidemiological survey revealed improper exposure to solvents, used for cleaning the dismantled engines between races, which contained high lead concentrations obtained from dissolved engine deposits.
